MCX notified regarding the Commencement of Futures Trading in Natural Gas January 2027 and Natural Gas Mini January 2027 Contracts

Secretarial ComplianceThe Multi-Commodity Exchange Clearing Corporation Limited (MCX) on June 29, 2026, notified regarding the Commencement of Futures Trading in Natural Gas January 2027 and Natural Gas Mini January 2027 Contracts.

The following has been stated:

• It has announced the launch of Natural Gas January 2027 and Natural Gas Mini January 2027 futures contracts for trading from July 29, 2026, with January 25, 2027, as the expiry date. The contracts will be cash-settled, with the Due Date Rate (DDR) linked to the settlement price of the NYMEX Natural Gas front-month contract, converted into Indian Rupees using the latest RBI USD/INR reference rate. 

• The standard Natural Gas contract will have a trading unit of 1,250 MMBtu, while the Natural Gas Mini contract will have a trading unit of 250 MMBtu. Both contracts will be available for trading for up to six calendar months at any point, with daily price limits of 4%, extendable to 6% and 9% based on market movements. 

• The contracts prescribe a minimum initial margin of 10% (or SPAN margin, whichever is higher), an extreme loss margin of 1%, and provide for additional or special margins during periods of high volatility. 

• The circular also specifies position limits, trading hours, contract launch calendar for 2027 expiries, and quality specifications, while directing members to comply with the margin requirements and other settlement procedures prescribed by MCXCCL from time to time
