The Government of Maharashtra, on June 24, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Employment Guarantee (Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Maharashtra Employment Guarantee Act, 1977.
The following has been stated:-
•The Maharashtra Employment Guarantee (Amendment) Bill, 2026, was introduced on June 24, 2026, to formally replace a June 16 ordinance.
•It amends the State's 1977 Act to bring it in consonance with the central Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, 2025.
•Key changes include renaming the state council and constituting a State Level Steering Committee headed by the Chief Secretary to provide operational guidance.
•Additionally, it creates a separate VB-G RAM G State Fund of Maharashtra specifically for rural areas to manage central and state allocations.
•Finally, the implementation of this Act involves a projected recurring expenditure of ₹9,252.32 Crores from the State's Consolidated Fund for FY 2026–27.
