Industry Specific ComplianceThe Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on June 30, 2026, issued a notification regarding the allocation of 1601 Numbering Series for Service and Transactional Voice Calls.

The following has been stated:-

•The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has approved the allocation of the dedicated 1601 numbering series for entities in sectors other than Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) and the Government sector, exclusively for service and transactional voice calls under the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018. 

•Initially, each Telecom Service Provider (TSP) will receive an allocation of 1,000 numbers per Licensed Service Area (LSA), with additional allocations permitted only after 75% utilisation of the existing block. 

•TSPs must conduct due diligence before assigning numbers, obtain an undertaking from entities confirming exclusive use for permitted service and transactional calls, and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory directions. 

•Only 10-digit numbers from the 1601 series may be assigned for this purpose.
