The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on June 30, 2026, issued a press release notifying the availability of the revised application form and indicative checklist for voluntary surrender of the Certificate of Registration (CoR) by Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), including Housing Finance Companies (HFCs). The revisions follow the issuance of the Reserve Bank of India (Non-Banking Financial Companies – Registration, Exemptions and Framework for Scale Based Regulation) Amendment Directions, 2026, particularly in relation to Unregistered Type I NBFCs.
The revised application form and checklist are available on the PRAVAAH portal, and applicant NBFCs and HFCs are required to submit the duly completed application along with all requisite documents in accordance with the prescribed checklist through the portal.
The RBI has clarified that submission of an application does not amount to cancellation of the Certificate of Registration. Until the RBI formally cancels the CoR and communicates its decision, NBFCs and HFCs must continue to comply with all applicable RBI, NHB, and other regulatory guidelines, including submission of all required regulatory and supervisory returns.
