The Government of Meghalaya, on May 29, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Meghalaya Regulatory Framework for Private Nursing Institutions.
The following has been stated:-
•The Government of Meghalaya, through the Health & Family Welfare Department, has introduced a Unified Regulatory Framework to oversee, monitor, and regulate the growing number of private nursing schools and colleges within the state.
•Under the administrative control of the Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME), this policy establishes a streamlined single-window approval system to ensure strict compliance with Indian Nursing Council (INC) and Meghalaya Nursing Council (MNC) standards.
•The framework addresses rising concerns over infrastructure deficits, faculty shortages, clinical training gaps, and lack of transparency by creating a statutory body named the Meghalaya Nursing Education Regulation Authority (MeNERA) to manage inspections, set fee ceilings, and eliminate exploitation such as unauthorized capitation fees.
•Additionally, the regulation introduces a comprehensive five-step institutional approval workflow, mandates strict adherence to student-to-patient training ratios, and requires every institution to establish a functional Placement and Career Guidance Cell to trace graduate tracking and support employment outcomes.
•Non-compliant institutions face severe enforcement penalties, including intake reductions or full suspension of institutional recognition.
