The Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) on June 30, 2026, issued a notification regarding the release of CPI Data for Industrial Workers for May 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Labour Bureau has released the Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) for May 2026 (Base: 2016 = 100). The All-India CPI-IW increased to 150.8 in May 2026 from 149.9 in April 2026, indicating a 0.9-point rise in the cost of living for industrial workers.
• Most industrial centres recorded either an increase or stability in the index, reflecting moderate inflationary pressures. Among major centres, Puducherry (171.6), Tirunelveli (169.4), Mancheriyal (166.0), and Davanagere (166.2) reported relatively higher index values, while Haldia (131.2), Jaipur (135.2), and Darjeeling (135.4) recorded the lowest.
• The CPI-IW serves as a key benchmark for the revision of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for employees and pensioners and is an important indicator of retail inflation affecting industrial workers.
