The Ministry of Power (MoP) on June 22, 2026, issued notification seeking comments on draft National Electricity Data Sharing Framework, 2026.
The draft National Electricity Data Sharing Framework, 2026 aims to address the fragmented and inconsistent data ecosystem in India’s electricity sector by establishing structured, secure, and standardised data sharing practices. It proposes creation of a National Electricity Data Centre (NEDC) and a National Electricity Data Portal (NEDP) to enable transparent and non-discriminatory access to sectoral data, while participation by entities remains voluntary.
The framework applies to a wide range of stakeholders including generating companies, transmission and distribution licensees, Load Despatch Centres, regulators, government agencies, and energy market participants. It covers multiple data categories such as operational, planning, financial, technical, and market data, while ensuring compliance with the DPDP Act and other applicable laws. However, sensitive and critical information (e.g., cyber security data, real-time strategic data, and pre-market bid data) is excluded from general sharing.
Key objectives include standardisation of datasets, secure and transparent data access, anonymisation of personal data, and establishment of institutional mechanisms for implementation and fee structures. The framework also promotes interoperability with other sectors and platforms (like data.gov.in) and enables consent-based data sharing with third-party service providers, supporting innovation and better decision-making across the electricity ecosystem.
The Ministry has circulated the draft National Electricity Data Sharing Framework, 2026 for stakeholder consultation. Comments and suggestions are invited within 30 days, i.e., by July 21, 2026, and can be submitted via email in MS Word or PDF format.
