The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on July 01, 2026, notified the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments) Amendment Rules, 2026, further to amend the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments) Rules, 2015.
The following has been stated:-
•The Central Government has amended the Food Security (Assistance to State Governments) Rules, 2015, revising Central assistance norms effective April 01, 2026.
•The revised assistance applies to States and Union Territories that comply with the prescribed reforms and Central Government directions.
•For General category States/UTs, the expenditure norms are ₹70/quintal for intra-state movement and handling, ₹100/quintal as Fair Price Shop (FPS) dealer margin, with an additional ₹11/quintal for PoS-based sales; the Central share is 50%.
•For Special category States/UTs, the corresponding norms are ₹105, ₹195, and ₹11 per quintal, with the Central share increased to 75%.
They shall come into force on July 03, 2026.
