The Government of Maharashtra on July 03, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships (Second Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Maharashtra Municipal Councils, Nagar Panchayats and Industrial Townships Act, 1965.
It states that in Section 42, the following Explanation shall be inserted: -
"Explanation: For the purposes of this section, 'family interference' in the functioning of the President (Municipal Chairperson), Vice-President, or Councillors shall be treated as serious misconduct. This shall include any exercise of authority by a family member on behalf of an elected representative or any attempt by such family member to exert influence or pressure on the administrative machinery."
