The Government of Maharashtra on July 01, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Industrial Relations (Repeal) Bill, 2026.
The Bill proposes to repeal the Maharashtra Industrial Relations Act, 1947, in line with the implementation of the new labour law framework. The Bill, however, safeguards all pending proceedings, existing settlements, court orders, awards, and the rights and liabilities arising under the repealed Act by providing that they will continue to be governed and disposed of under the provisions of the Maharashtra Industrial Relations Act, 1947, as if it had not been repealed. It also provides that the savings provisions under Section 7 of the Maharashtra General Clauses Act, 1904 shall apply to ensure continuity of legal proceedings and accrued rights following the repeal.
