The Government of Maharashtra, on July 03, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code (Third Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966.
The following has been stated:-
•The Bill proposes to insert Section 247-A into the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code, 1966, prescribing time limits for disposal of appeals in revenue courts.
•It mandates that first appeals be decided within 180 days, second appeals within 120 days, and stay applications within 15 days of filing.
•The amendment aims to address long-pending revenue disputes, particularly those affecting farmers and landholders, by ensuring timely justice.
•It seeks to enhance administrative accountability, reduce delays in land transactions, and improve the efficiency and transparency of revenue administration.
•The Bill is also expected to reduce litigation before the High Court arising from delays in revenue court proceedings.
