The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E) on July 06, 2026, issued a notification regarding Standard Rescue Communication Signals for Underground Mines.
The following has been stated:-
•The Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS), under Rule 152(3) of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (Central) Rules, 2026, has notified the standard code of signals for communication among mine rescue personnel using breathing apparatus.
•The standards apply to all rescue-trained persons operating in belowground mines and prescribe uniform hoot signals for distress, halt, retire, and advance.
•Compliance with these standardized communication signals is mandatory during mine rescue operations.
