The Government of Maharashtra on July 07, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies (Second Amendment) Bill, 2026, further to amend the Maharashtra Co-operative Societies Act, 1960.
The following has been amended, namely:
• In section 23, after sub-section (1), a proviso shall be inserted, namely: "Provided that, no primary agricultural credit co-operative society shall refuse admission to membership to any person who is a resident in area of operation of such society and has minimum 10R agricultural land and not having membership of any other primary agricultural credit co-operative society functioning in the area of operation of such society.".
• In section 144-11A, after sub-section (1), a proviso shall be inserted, namely: "Provided that, a non-agricultural co-operative credit society may disburse a gold loan to any person other than share holder member by making him a nominal member of the society."
