Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Communications (MoC) on July 08, 2026, issued the Telecommunications (Radio Equipment Possession Authorisation) Rules, 2026.

They shall come into force on July 08, 2026.

The following has been stated:

• The Rules prescribe a regulatory framework for obtaining authorisation to possess radio equipment for activities such as manufacture, sale, import, repair, testing, demonstration, and hiring. The rules specify the eligibility criteria, application process, authorisation and renewal fees, validity period, and conditions for renewal and modification of authorisations.

• The rules also prescribe obligations for authorised entities, including maintaining secure custody of radio equipment, complying with technical standards, maintaining inventories and records, reporting loss or misuse, facilitating inspections, and adhering to spectrum-related conditions during testing and demonstrations. 

• They further provide exemptions for specified categories of persons, lay down procedures for surrender and disposal of radio equipment, empower the Central Government to conduct inspections, issue directions, suspend or revoke authorisations for violations, and mandate digital implementation through an online portal.
