The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW) on July 08, 2026, issued a notification regarding notifying the 22 New Seed Varieties under the Seeds Act, 1966.
The following has been stated:-
•The Central Government has notified 22 new seed varieties and hybrids under Section 5 of the Seeds Act, 1966, following consultation with the Central Seeds Committee.
•The notification regulates the quality of these seed varieties and specifies the States/Union Territories where each variety is approved for sale for agricultural purposes.
•The notified varieties cover a wide range of crops, including onion, potato, coriander, colocasia, ginger, sapota, fenugreek, sponge gourd, chilli, mango, bael, coconut, ashwagandha, and cashew.
•These varieties will also be treated as notified varieties across India for seed production and quality control, irrespective of the States where their sale is recommended.
•The notification takes effect from July 08, 2026.
