Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on July 07, 2026, issued a notification regarding the extension of Permit Exemption for Alternative Fuel Transport Vehicles.

The following has been stated:-

•The Central Government has exempted specified battery-operated, methanol, ethanol, and hydrogen-powered transport vehicles from the permit requirement under Section 66(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. 

•The exemption will remain valid for seven years from the date of publication of the notification. 

•It replaces the earlier notification issued on October 18, 2018. 

•Eligible vehicles must be equipped with a vehicle location tracking device (VLTD) compliant with AIS-140 specifications, as amended from time to time.
