The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E) on July 06, 2026, issued a notification regarding Initial Training Standards for Mine Rescue and Recovery Personnel.
The following has been stated:-
•The Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS) has notified the standards for initial training in mine rescue and recovery work under Rule 141(1) of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (Central) Rules, 2026.
•The standards apply to all persons selected for rescue and recovery training and prescribe comprehensive theoretical instruction on mine fires, breathing apparatus, gas detection, rescue operations, rope rescue, firefighting, and CPR.
•They also mandate practical exercises, including breathing apparatus drills, simulated underground rescue operations, debris removal, roof support, and casualty evacuation.
•In addition, trainees must undergo at least two days of CPR and rescue tools training and five days of rope rescue training conducted by trainers recommended by the equipment manufacturers.
•The standards aim to ensure uniform competency and preparedness of mine rescue personnel for emergency response operations.
