BIS notifies revised Indian Standards for chemicals, leather, petroleum products, testing methods, and hides & skins

Commercial ComplianceThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), on June 24, 2026, notified seven revised Indian Standards covering benzene, chamois leather, kerosene, glass alcoholometers, methods for determination of crude fibre content in food products, and grading of hides and skins under Rule 15(1) of the Bureau of Indian Standards Rules, 2018. The revised standards were established on June 23, 2026.

The notification introduces updated specifications and test methods through the revision of existing standards, including IS 534:2026 (Benzene), IS 1017:2026 (Chamois Leather), IS 1459:2026 (Kerosene), IS 3608 (Part 2):2026 (Glass Alcoholometers), IS 10226 (Parts 1 and 2):2026 (Determination of Crude Fibre Content in Food Products), and IS 12435:2026 (Grading of Hides and Skins).

The earlier versions of these standards shall continue to remain in force concurrently until December 23, 2026, after which they will be withdrawn and the revised standards will become the applicable Indian Standards.
