Industry Specific ComplianceThe Punjab Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), on July 14, 2026, notified the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Building (Amendment) Rules, 2026, amending the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Building Rules, 2021. The amendment comes into force from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

The amendment introduces the definition of a "Mixed-Use Project or Site", recognising integrated developments comprising two or more interconnected land uses supported by common infrastructure, utilities, circulation systems, and access arrangements. The Rules permit mixed-use developments to be configured either vertically within one or more buildings or horizontally across multiple buildings on the same site.

The notification also specifies that all uses are generally permissible within a mixed-use development, except schools and colleges (other than crèches, play schools and nursery schools), hospitals or nursing homes with more than 10 beds, green, orange and red category industries, hazardous material storage, and other activities prohibited under law. However, White Category industries and Information Technology/Information Technology Enabled Services (IT/ITES) industries are expressly permitted.
