The Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), on June 29, 2026, issued an urgent advisory directing anaesthesiologists across the country to immediately discontinue the use of bupivacaine manufactured by Themis for spinal anaesthesia and other clinical purposes.
The advisory has been issued following reports of serious adverse events associated with the use of the product for spinal anaesthesia. ISA informed that investigations into the reported incidents are currently underway and advised medical professionals not to use the concerned product until further notice.
The advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure in the interest of patient safety and welfare pending the outcome of the ongoing investigations.
