Secretarial ComplianceThe Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on July 17, 2026, issued a Caution to Regulated Entities and Listed Companies: Boss Scam.

The following has been stated:

• SEBI has issued an advisory warning regulated entities and listed companies about the rising "Boss Scam" or CEO/MD impersonation fraud, as reported by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). Fraudsters are using AI-generated deepfakes, voice cloning, fake WhatsApp or email messages, social media accounts, and malware-laden ZIP files to impersonate senior executives and deceive finance officials into transferring funds to fraudulent accounts.

• SEBI has advised organizations to verify all payment instructions directly with senior officials, avoid transferring funds based solely on social media or messaging platforms, refrain from opening unverified executable files, log out of unused WhatsApp Web sessions, and promptly report cyber fraud incidents through the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) or the Cyber Crime Portal.
