The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E) on July 13, 2026, issued a notification regarding Standards for Vocational Training Centres in Mines.
The following has been stated:-
•The Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS) has notified standards under Rule 164 of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions (Central) Rules, 2026, prescribing staff, equipment, and infrastructure requirements for Vocational Training Centres serving coal, metalliferous, and oil mines.
•The standards mandate qualified training officers, instructors, specialised trainers, and adequate support staff based on the number of trainable employees.
•They also require modern training equipment, including computers, simulators, digital learning tools, audio-visual aids, and updated safety training materials.
•Additionally, the notification prescribes essential infrastructure such as classrooms, model rooms, libraries, training sheds, firefighting and first-aid facilities, and digital systems for managing training records.
•These measures aim to strengthen mine safety by ensuring uniform, technology-enabled and competency-based vocational training across the mining sector.
