The Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), on July 7, 2026, directed all its Regional Offices to conduct a detailed inspection at least once every six months of hazardous waste recyclers and actual users authorized under Rule 9 of the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. The inspections are intended to ensure continuous compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The inspections will verify compliance with applicable CPCB SOPs and authorization conditions, including the adequacy of facilities, receipt and utilization of authorized hazardous waste, reconciliation of waste inputs with outputs and residues, operation of pollution control systems, adherence to product specifications and end-use restrictions, and proper management and disposal of residues and other wastes generated during recycling or utilization.
The circular permits integration of these detailed inspections with routine inspections conducted during the relevant six-month period, provided all prescribed compliance requirements are specifically verified and documented. Where CPCB SOPs, authorization conditions, or Board directions prescribe a more stringent inspection frequency, those requirements will continue to prevail.
