Commercial ComplianceThe Ministry of Heavy Industries (MoHI) on July 10, 2026, issued a report on aggregation of Multi-Sectoral long-term Battery Storage Capacity Demand and Long-Term Action Plan.

The following has been stated: -

•India’s National Battery Roadmap aims to establish the country as a global hub for competitive, sustainable battery manufacturing to support the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision and Net Zero by 2070.

•The report projects 1,094 GWh of annual battery demand by 2047, with electric vehicles accounting for nearly 80%, followed by grid-scale energy storage and consumer electronics.

•It identifies seven strategic pillars, including critical mineral security, component manufacturing, ACC and BESS production, demand creation, battery recycling, R&D, and effective governance.

•The roadmap proposes a phased approach to strengthen domestic manufacturing, develop refining capacity, expand battery recycling, and create a resilient end-to-end battery value chain.

•It also recommends policy support, infrastructure development, R&D incentives, industrial clusters, and a High-Level Task Force to achieve battery self-reliance and energy security by 2047.
