The Pollution Control Committee of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNH & DD) on July 15, 2026, issued notification regarding the Retrofitting of emission control devices/equipment in D.G. Sets.
The Pollution Control Committee of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (DNH & DD), referring to concerns raised under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and observations of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), has highlighted that diesel generator (D.G.) sets are a significant source of particulate matter (PM) pollution. In line with the national objective of reducing PM10 levels and improving air quality, stricter controls on emissions from D.G. sets have been mandated.
The Committee has directed that all D.G. sets manufactured and installed before July 01, 2004, or those not complying with Stage-I/II emission norms, must be scrapped and cannot be used or sold. Further, all operational D.G. sets must be retrofitted with Emission Control Devices (RECDs) to achieve at least 70% reduction in particulate matter emissions. For generators up to 800 KW, RECDs must be type-approved as per CPCB procedures, while for higher capacity sets, compliance must be demonstrated through emission testing and adherence to prescribed limits.
Alternatively, establishments may shift to gas-based generators. All stakeholders are required to comply within 90 days and submit a time-bound action plan within 60 days. Non-compliance will attract action under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. The order is effective immediately, and acknowledgment of receipt must be provided within seven days.
