The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on July 09, 2026, issued a notification regarding the Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) for Recognition/ Endorsement of Already Approved Model of Weights or Measures for Importers.
The following has been stated: -
•The Department of Consumer Affairs has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SoP) for recognition/endorsement of already approved models of weights or measures imported into India. The SoP allows importers of identical models manufactured by the same foreign manufacturer to obtain an endorsement certificate without undergoing fresh model approval, subject to verification of identity and compliance.
•It prescribes eligibility conditions, the application process, and the documents required to establish that the imported model is identical to an existing approved model.
•Where identity is established, no fresh testing is required, while cases involving variations or incomplete information may undergo additional verification.
•The endorsement certificate will be linked to the original model approval, and importers must continue to comply with the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011.
