The National Dental Commission (NDC) on July 22, 2026, issued a circular regarding the mandatory Guidelines for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Training and Certification in Dental Colleges.
The following has been stated: -
•The National Dental Commission has mandated Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for all BDS students before clinical training, with refresher sessions throughout the course.
•MDS students must complete BLS and Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification, while Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery postgraduates are additionally required to obtain Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
• Faculty involved in clinical care must maintain valid BLS/ALS certifications through periodic recertification.
•Dental colleges are also required to conduct regular emergency training, mock drills, maintain emergency response infrastructure, and keep updated certification records for compliance and quality assurance inspections.
