The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on July 24, 2026, issued the Draft Central Motor Vehicles (………. Amendment) Rules, 2026 to further amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following amendments have been stated:
• In the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, in rule 125 Q, after sub-rule (3), the following new sub-rule (4) shall be inserted, namely:
“(4) Vehicles of categories L, M and N, manufactured on and after 1st day of October 2027, if fitted with Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication systems, shall comply with AIS-230, as amended from time to time. Vehicles of categories L, M and N, manufactured on and after 1st day of October 2028, shall be fitted with Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication systems, meeting specifications as per AIS-230, as amended from time to time."
The Government has invited objections and suggestions from stakeholders and the general public. These inputs will be considered after a period of 30 days from the date the notification is made available to the public.
