•The Madhya Pradesh Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026, was published under Rule 64 of the Legislative Assembly rules for public notice.
•It establishes a standardized civil legal framework governing personal matters such as marriage, compulsory registration of marriages and divorces, annulment, maintenance, and rules of testate and intestate succession across all religions in Madhya Pradesh.
•Key provisions ban practices like polygamy, criminalize Nikah Halala, regulate live-in relationships through compulsory registration, and grant equal inheritance rights to men and women while abolishing the legal concept of an "illegitimate child."
•Additionally, the Bill explicitly exempts Scheduled Tribes notified under Articles 342 and 366(25) of the Constitution to protect their distinct customary traditions and cultural practices.
•Finally, it outlines procedural rules, court jurisdiction, and legal protections for officers managing registration and succession under the Code.
