The Labour Department, Government of Maharashtra on July 27, 2026, notified regarding the change in the name of the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, Mumbai, and the designations of the various posts under the administrative control of the Directorate.
The following has been stated namely:
• The Government has approved the renaming of the “Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, Maharashtra State, Mumbai” as the “Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health, Maharashtra State, Mumbai” to align the enforcement machinery with the provisions of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, implemented by the Central Government on November 21, 2025.
• Accordingly, the designations of officers under the Directorate have also been revised, including Director → Director, Occupational Safety and Health; Additional Director → Additional Director, Occupational Safety and Health; Joint Director → Joint Director, Occupational Safety and Health; Deputy Director (Medical) → Medical Officer, Occupational Safety and Health; Deputy Director → Deputy Director, Occupational Safety and Health; and Assistant Director → Assistant Director, Occupational Safety and Health.
• The revised designations incorporate the terminology of “Inspector-cum-Facilitator” as prescribed under Section 34 of the Code.
• The Government has further directed that necessary action be taken to revise the staffing pattern and service/recruitment rules for posts under the Directorate accordingly.
