The Ministry of Education (MoE) on July 30, 2026, issued a notification regarding the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme.
The following has been stated:
• The Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) Scheme, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented from 2022-23 to 2026-27, aims to strengthen over 14,500 schools across the country as model institutions aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. As of now, 13,092 schools have been selected across States/UTs, Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), and NCERT institutions.
• PM SHRI schools are designed to provide high-quality, equitable, inclusive, and joyful education, promote multilingual learning, develop 21st-century skills, and serve as benchmark institutions for neighbouring schools.
• The scheme follows the 5+3+3+4 curricular structure under the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), while allowing States to contextualize the curriculum to local needs. Financial assistance under the scheme has been released since FY 2023-24, and States/UTs are required to sign an MoU with the Central Government, following which schools are selected through a Challenge Mode.
• The Government has stated that States not participating in or withdrawing from the scheme may forgo the educational and institutional benefits envisaged under PM SHRI.
