The following has been stated: -

•The Reserve Bank of India issued the "Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks - Supervisory Returns) Directions, 2026" on July 31, 2026, setting updated regulatory standards for supervisory filings. 

•Applicable to all commercial banks in India, these directions mandate the submission of essential periodic and ad-hoc returns strictly through RBI’s designated online platforms like the Centralised Information Management System (CIMS). 

•The document outlines the critical responsibilities of bank Boards and Senior Management in establishing robust governance frameworks to manage data quality risks and ensure reporting accuracy. 

•It details a comprehensive list of required returns covering capital adequacy, asset quality, liquidity, and large exposures, along with their respective submission periodicities and reference dates. 

•Additionally, the guidelines outline operational protocols, exception handling, and penalties for non-compliance to maintain complete transparency and financial integrity across the banking sector.

These Directions shall come into effect immediately upon issuance.
