Industry Specific ComplianceThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on July 31, 2026, issued the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks – Fraud Risk Management) Directions, 2026.

The following has been stated: -

•The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Fraud Risk Management Directions, 2026 establish a comprehensive framework for commercial banks to ensure early detection, governance, and timely reporting of fraudulent activities. 

•It directs banks to institute a Board-approved Fraud Risk Management Policy alongside dedicated committees to oversee risk controls and monitor incidents. 

•A core requirement is the implementation of Early Warning Signals (EWS) integrated with core banking systems to identify and red-flag suspicious accounts promptly. 

•To uphold fairness, banks must strictly adhere to principles of natural justice by issuing show-cause notices and reasoned orders before declaring any account or individual as fraudulent. 

•Entities and individuals classified as frauds face strict penal measures, including a mandatory five-year debarment from accessing funds or credit facilities across regulated financial institutions.

These Directions shall come into effect immediately upon issuance.
