Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Defence (MoD), on July 28, 2026, issued a draft notification proposing the Ayodhya Cantonment Building Bye-Laws, 2026 under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006, in supersession of the existing building bye-laws notified in 1954. The draft has been published for public consultation, and stakeholders may submit objections or suggestions within 30 days from the date the Gazette is made available to the public. [Notification No. S.R.O. 19(E)]

The proposed bye-laws will apply within the Ayodhya Cantonment limits and will come into force upon their final publication in the Official Gazette. They establish a comprehensive regulatory framework governing building construction, reconstruction, additions, alterations, approvals, and development controls within the cantonment. The draft also introduces detailed definitions for various planning and construction terms, including buildings, apartments, architects, basements, balconies, building height, building envelope, commercial buildings, competent authority, and other technical concepts necessary for uniform implementation.

The draft aims to modernize and standardize building regulations in the Ayodhya Cantonment by replacing the decades-old framework with updated provisions aligned with the Cantonments Act, 2006. It is intended to facilitate planned urban development, ensure regulatory clarity, promote safe construction practices, and streamline the building approval process while accommodating contemporary planning, engineering, and accessibility standards.
