The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), on July 9, 2026, issued an advisory directing online movie ticketing platforms and ticket aggregators to implement a mechanism that enables persons with disabilities to ascertain, before booking tickets, whether a particular film is available with accessibility features. The advisory has been issued in view of the directions of the Delhi High Court in W.P.(C) No. 16833/2024 concerning accessibility of cinema exhibition for persons with disabilities.
The advisory recommends that booking platforms prominently display information regarding the availability of accessibility features such as Audio Description (AD), Closed Captions (CC)/Same Language Captioning (SLC), Indian Sign Language (ISL), and other accessibility features. Where such features are available through an external application or platform, the name of the relevant application or platform should also be clearly displayed to help users make informed booking decisions.
The Ministry has advised online ticketing platforms and ticket aggregators to implement the proposed mechanism within seven days of the advisory to enhance accessibility and ease of access for persons with disabilities. The advisory has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority and has also been forwarded to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for necessary action.
