Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra on July 30, 2026, issued draft Maharashtra Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (First Amendment) Rules, 2026, to amend the Maharashtra Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.

The following has been stated: -

•The draft proposes amending Sub-rule (3) of Rule 4 to specify that retail transactions under sub-rules (1) and (2) must exclusively use Class A or B beam scales, or non-automatic weighing instruments of Special Accuracy (Class I) or High Accuracy (Class II) with a verification scale interval of 1 mg.

•The Government of Maharashtra will consider any objections or suggestions regarding these draft rules on or after August 13, 2026.

• Persons or organizations must submit their feedback to the Secretary of the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department at Mantralaya, Mumbai, before the deadline.
