Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Maharashtra, on July 22, 2026, notified the Maharashtra Money-Lending (Regulation) (Amendment) Act, 2026, amending the Maharashtra Money-Lending (Regulation) Act, 2014 to strengthen the regulatory framework governing money-lending activities in the State.

The amendment revises Section 39 by increasing the prescribed period from five years to seven years and enhancing the monetary amount from ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh. Similar amendments have been made to Section 41, where the relevant periods have been increased from one year to three years and five years to seven years, while the monetary thresholds have been raised from ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 and ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, respectively.

Further, Section 45 has been amended by increasing the applicable period from two years to three years and enhancing the monetary amount from ₹5,000 to ₹1 lakh. These amendments strengthen enforcement by increasing penalties and extending the applicable compliance and regulatory timeframes under the Act.
