The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) on August 19, 2026, clarifies the Scope of Compounding Powers under the Code on Wages, 2019.
The Ministry, through a corrigendum to S.O. 2455(E) dated 12 May 2026, has amended the wording relating to the authority of designated officers to compound offences under the Code on Wages, 2019. The earlier phrase “to compound the offences punishable with imprisonment only, or with imprisonment and also with fine” has been replaced with “to compound any offence under the Code on Wages, 2019, other than an offence punishable with imprisonment only or with imprisonment and also with fine.” Accordingly, the authorised officers are empowered to compound offences under the Code on Wages except offences punishable with imprisonment alone or with imprisonment along with fine, thereby clarifying and restricting the categories of offences that may be compounded under the notification.
