The Ministry of Defence (MoD), on July 30, 2026, published the draft Subathu Cantonment Building Bye-laws, 2026 under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006, proposing to supersede Notification No. 26050 dated October 16, 1933. The draft bye-laws are intended to regulate building activities throughout the Subathu Cantonment, except Government buildings situated within the Cantonment, and will come into force upon final publication in the Official Gazette.
The draft sets out general provisions concerning building activities and includes definitions such as “Access”, meaning a clear approach to a plot or building, “Act”, referring to the Cantonments Act, 2006 as amended from time to time, and “Addition to a building”. The detailed bye-laws are proposed to provide the regulatory framework applicable to construction and development within the Cantonment.
The draft has been published for public consultation, and interested persons may submit their objections or suggestions within 30 days from the date on which copies of the Gazette containing the draft are made available to the public. Comments may be submitted to the Cantonment Board, Subathu or through the specified email address.
