The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), on August 11, 2026, highlighted the implementation of the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Operational Guidelines, released during the 16th Central Council of Health and Family Welfare meeting on June 29, 2026. The revised programme adopts a 7×7×7 strategy, replacing the earlier 6×6×6 approach, with greater emphasis on testing, treatment, digital tracking, dietary diversification and addressing non-nutritional causes of anemia.
The seven beneficiary groups comprise children aged 6–59 months, children aged 5–9 years, adolescents aged 10–19 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers, women of reproductive age (20–49 years), and 0–6 months low-birth-weight babies. The seven interventions include prophylactic IFA supplementation, anemia testing, therapeutic management, deworming and delayed cord clamping, Jan Bhagidari communication, addressing non-nutritional causes, and promotion of locally available iron-rich foods and dietary diversification.
The framework also establishes seven institutional mechanisms, including intra-ministerial coordination, a National Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research on Anemia, a National AMB Abhiyaan Unit, strengthened supply chains, inter-ministerial convergence, the Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Portal and a digital monitoring framework. The existing T3 approach of Test, Treat and Talk is expanded to T4—Test, Treat, Talk and Track, enabling digital tracking of beneficiaries for treatment, referral and follow-up through platforms such as JANANI, RBSK and U-WIN.
