The National Medical Commission (NMC) on August 23, 2026, issued a notification regarding NMC Directions on Compliance with Supreme Court Order Regarding Student Suicides and Institutional Vacancies.
The following has been stated: -
•The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges and institutions to comply with the Supreme Court’s directions in Amit Kumar & Others v. Union of India & Others regarding reporting of student suicides/unnatural deaths, maintenance of institutional records, and filling of faculty and administrative vacancies.
•Institutions must maintain updated records of student deaths, sanctioned and filled posts, vacancies, recruitment status, reasons for non-filling and timelines for filling vacant positions.
•They are required to submit a duly certified Action Taken Report (ATR) to NMC by the end of every month.
•NMC will consolidate the information for monitoring compliance and submission to the Ministry of Education, and the matter is to be treated as MOST URGENT.
