The Ministry of Defence (MoD), on August 6, 2026, published the draft Clement Town Cantonment Building Bye-Laws, 2026 under Section 251 of the Cantonments Act, 2006, proposing to supersede the notification dated April 7, 1945. The draft has been issued for public consultation, with objections and suggestions invited within 30 days from the date the relevant Gazette copies are made available to the public.
The proposed Bye-Laws will apply within the limits of Clement Town Cantonment and will come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette by the Central Government. They prescribe definitions and regulatory concepts relating to building development, including access, accessory buildings, building envelope, building height, built-up area, commercial buildings, amenity space, competent authority, covered area and architectural projections.
The draft also provides the regulatory framework for building planning and construction within the cantonment, including requirements and terminology concerning building height, setbacks, building lines, FSI, civil areas and the authority competent to sanction building plans. Stakeholders may submit objections or suggestions to the Cantonment Board, Clement Town or at [email protected] within the prescribed consultation period.
