The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on August 27, 2026, issued Mandatory Registration on Common EPR Portal for Entities under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
CPCB has directed all entities covered under the Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Rules, 2016, including Producers (including Micro and Small Enterprises), Importers, Brand Owners, Manufacturers, Sellers and Plastic Waste Processors (PWPs), to obtain registration on the Common EPR Portal for Plastic Packaging (CEPR Portal). Entities required to register cannot carry out business without valid registration.
CPCB has observed instances of entities remaining unregistered and transactions being conducted with unregistered entities. Accordingly, CPCB is strengthening the transaction-based reporting mechanism and will discontinue recording/declaration of purchase or sale transactions with unregistered entities on the portal, except for applicable transactions involving Micro & Small Brand Owners and PWPs.
Compliance Impact: Covered entities must ensure immediate registration, conduct plastic packaging/plastic waste transactions only with registered entities, and report transactions, EPR compliance and annual returns through the CEPR Portal. Businesses should also ensure their unregistered suppliers and buyers obtain registration to avoid disruption in transaction reporting and regulatory action under the PWM Rules, 2016.
