The Government of Maharashtra on August 27, 2026, issued the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, to the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2023.
The following has been stated: -
•The ordinance amends Part II of the Schedule appended to the Maharashtra Private Universities (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2023.
•The primary change is the addition of entry 14 for Lata Mangeshkar University, Nagpur (sponsored by VSPM Academy of Higher Education) and entry 15 for Dr. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil University, Ahilyanagar (sponsored by Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation).
•These amendments formally permit both sponsoring bodies, which meet the required experience and NAAC accreditation standards, to establish private universities dedicated to Health Science Courses.
•The ordinance was promulgated to take effect immediately so these universities could begin admissions for Health Science Courses starting in the 2026–27 academic year.
