The Department of Science and Technology (DST) on August 31, 2026, issued notification on Cyber-Physical Systems.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is implementing the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) to strengthen India’s capabilities in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), which integrate computation, communication and physical processes through sensors, software and communication networks. The Union Cabinet approved the mission in 2018 with an outlay of ₹3,660 crore for nine years to promote CPS research, innovation, product development and start-up incubation across priority sectors.
Under NM-ICPS, 25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) have been established as Section 8 companies at premier academic institutions. These hubs focus on technology development, skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship, and international collaboration, while supporting the translation of research into practical solutions and commercial products.
To accelerate technology deployment and commercialisation, four high-performing TIHs were selected in 2025 as Technology Translation Research Parks (TTRPs) at IIT Kanpur, IISc Bengaluru, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and IIT Indore. Their focus areas are Cybersecurity; Robotics and AI Systems; Mining Technologies; and Digital Healthcare, respectively. The initiative aims to build indigenous CPS capabilities and strengthen India’s technology ecosystem through collaboration among academia, industry and Government.
