Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Himachal Pradesh, on August 22, 2026, notified the Himachal Pradesh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Amendment Rules, 2026, amending Rule 16 of the Himachal Pradesh Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011.

The amendment inserts sub-rule (6) in Rule 16, requiring every retailer engaged in the sale of gold and other precious metals to install and use a non-automatic weighing instrument having a verification scale interval (e) of 1 milligram (mg) at its premises. The instrument must be duly verified and stamped in accordance with applicable legal metrology laws and must be used for all transactions involving the weighment of gold or precious metals sold to consumers.

The Amendment Rules shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Himachal Pradesh e-Gazette/Rajpatra. The notification states that the draft rules had been published earlier for objections/suggestions and that no objections or suggestions were received within the stipulated period.
