The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on August 29, 2026, issued the draft Central Motor Vehicles (….Amendment) Rules, 2026 to further amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following amendments have been stated:
In the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 , in the first proviso of sub-rule(2) of Rule 120, for the words and figures “where different noise levels are prescribed for vehicles, the lowest limits prescribed of such category, shall apply to Battery Operated Vehicles”, the words and figures “Where different noise levels are prescribed for different category of vehicles and their sub-categories, the lowest limits prescribed for such different category of vehicles and to their subcategories also, shall apply to Battery Operated Vehicles” shall be substituted.
Stakeholders and affected persons may submit objections and suggestions within 30 days from the date the Gazette notification is made available to the public.
