Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Meghalaya (FS&FWD), on August 15, 2026, issued an order withdrawing the interim state-wide freeze and prohibition imposed on the sale, stocking and distribution of “STING” Energy Drink. The restriction had initially been imposed on August 14, 2026 as a precautionary measure following media reports concerning the death of a student and an alleged association with consumption of the beverage.

Following an inquiry conducted by the Food Safety Officer, the Inquiry Report dated August 14, 2026 did not establish any causal relationship between consumption of “STING” Energy Drink and the reported death. Accordingly, the Commissioner of Food Safety ordered that the interim restriction be withdrawn with immediate effect. The withdrawal is specifically stated not to constitute an adverse finding, special certification or endorsement of the product or its manufacturer.

Food Business Operators are required to continue complying with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and applicable Rules, Regulations, directions and advisories. Routine surveillance, sampling and regulatory enforcement in respect of food products will continue in the ordinary course.
