The Government of Madhya Pradesh on September 01, 2026, notified the Madhya Pradesh Sugar (Stock Holding Limit for Bulk Consumers) Control Order, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•Bulk consumers (using >10 MT/month) cannot hold sugar stock exceeding 15 days of their consumption needs.
•Defines bulk consumers as commercial buyers (sweets, soft drinks, food processors) averaging at least 100 MT monthly consumption.
•Exempts government-held stock and PDS distribution, while mandating verification of sugar sales via GST returns and HSN codes.
•Regulates dealers by capping maximum sugar storage at 4,000 quintals and restricting storage duration to no more than 30 days.
•Authorizes state and district supply officers to enter, search premises, inspect records, and seize illegal sugar stocks under BNSS, 2023 guidelines.
•It comes into force from September 01, 2026.
