Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) on September 03, 2026, issued the Draft Petroleum (Amendment) Rules, 2026, to further amend the Petroleum Rules, 2002.

The following has been stated: -

•The Petroleum (Amendment) Rules, 2026 introduce several changes to streamline petroleum regulation and facilitate ISO tank container operations. A new definition of “District Fire Officer” is introduced, and ISO 1496 is added to the prescribed marking standards. 

•E-payment of fees is enabled, with revised provisions for refunds and rejected applications. 

•A new procedure is prescribed for import of ISO tank containers, including online applications, documentation, TPIA certification, and deemed approval within seven working days. 

•The validity of permissions for transportation of Petroleum Class A/B in ISO tank containers is extended from one year to three years, with additional provisions for extensions and multimodal transport.

The objections and suggestions, if any, may be submitted within 30 days from September 04, 2026.
